Re-rhyparography
Jan 8- 22, 2021
In his book Natural History of the First Century ,Pliny introduces and describes the inanimate nature painter as follows: "Did he not humiliate himself by choosing to draw the basics?" And calls him Ryparographer. The answer to this question can be found in the distinction between the painting and its subject and the value contrast between the two. These values were intertwined for centuries and formed the value hierarchy of genres, symbolizing the superiority of the subject over the painting image. But gradually another view emerged that gave importance to the method of painting instead of the subject. For this view ,Still life - which was at its lowest in the previous hierarchy - provides a fertile ground for the implementation of pictorial ideas. In this way, inanimate nature can be the embodiment of the idea of painting; A species that allows interference in its structure in order to form a cohesive surface (panel). This exhibition is a selection of the works of Rhyparography One (2018 / Vartan Gallery) and Rhyparography Two (2020 / October Collection)
