Although the printing technique has become a tool for artistic expression in Europe since the eighteenth century, painting has a long history. At the beginning of the formation of Sumerian civilization, printing on clay seals was used as a means of communication. In the second century, the Chinese used the printing technique to produce images of everyday life and to display shadows. But one of the most interesting was the Japanese use of woodcuts in the mid-eighth century. In Europe, printing on cloth began in the sixth century. But the first engravings in Germany took shape in the 15th century and peaked with Albrecht Dürer in the 16th century. The ups and downs of history and the vast possibilities of this ancient means of expression in combination with the modern achievements of these days have greatly enriched the visual experiences. Artists have also reproduced excellent works by creating specialized workshops and focusing on this medium. In Iran, printmaking has always been one of the popular tools of artists from the Qajar until now. This collection works by 23 modern artists from almost the beginning of modernism to the present day. Apart from the aesthetic aspects, the works are an attractive introduction of different generations of Iranian artists together.
